Summer Family Bonding : Swimming Lessons (2)

Well, a good way to keep "the kids" busy this summer is to send them to swimming class. Good for us that there's one not very far away. I did have to make little sacrifices like waking up early and attending to "the kids" during and after swimming class.

The venue is a covered pool area so there's less chance of getting sunburned. Plus, with the summer heat and all, it's just awesome to be taking a dip in a pool! 

"The kids" were enrolled in C.L.A.S.S. (Chito Rivera's Learning Aquatic Skills & Services, Inc.). Overall I would give thumbs up to the program as "the kids" enjoyed themselves and learned much from two weeks of swimming lessons. 

However, I wish the program also allowed students to be accelerated to the next level when they have shown enough competence to be in advance class than just stay in basic class. 

Another great thing I liked about the venue is that the covered pool is located on the 36th floor of a high-rise building near our area. I can't help but take some shots of the view from the huge windows around the pool area. Awesome, isn't it?

And during one of the class days, there was even a taping for a local tv show (GMA-7 's Legacy). So cool indeed! 

Well, it's turning out to be one memorable summer break! ^_^

And so it's summer! Yup, I'm not much of an outdoor person and I don't fancy staying out in the sun all that much. But I would definitely love a dip in an indoor pool. LOL! I just read that so far today is the hottest day with temp reaching 36.2 C where I am. Ugghh! Wouldn't you love to stay in an air-conditioned room? I know I would love that! Plus, I don't have the energy to stay in front of the pc all that much either. The "kids" are on break from school so it's a great time to bond with them. Well, by "kids" I mean my daughter who just recently graduated from high school and my niece who's starting Grade 5 soon. ^_^

Well, I must say we have found a less expensive way to bond... staying in front of the boob tube in my niece's air-conditioned room :D So instead of having our own adventures, we content ourselves with watching how "Phineas and Ferb" spend their summer days. LOL! My daughter's been telling me about this show, but I haven't paid it much attention until this summer! I must say I'm kinda hooked too! I think it's the kid in me. 

The show's amazing! Can you imagine how imaginative and inventive these geeky kids seem to be?! If only real kids are even half as close... lol! ^_^ 

Yeah, I'm not as productive as I usually am this summer.. esp. not with the HOT weather! I totally feel like I want to curl up somewhere cooler and cozier. Nonetheless, I'm just glad that I get to bond with the "kids" this summer. Ahh, the joys of working from home.

KC Concepcion -- Cosmopolitan Philippines March 2012

Fun. Fearless. Female. Gotta love KC Concepcion! After her controversial Rogue magazine pictorial comes yet another surprise.. KC on Cosmopolitan Philippines March 2012 cover donning a two-piece swimsuit! Hey, it's summer so what do you expect? ^_^

If you're a KC Concepcion fan, like I am, you'd want to grab a copy of the issue. Read the interview of the "Great Miss Concepcion" where KC talked a little about her condo -- featured with pictures on Yes! magazine ( I will blog about this in more details next time), shared some of her quotable quotes, and revealed some of the lessons she learned about love.

On making her own decisions:

"I'm only human, of course, I make mistakes. But they're all part of my story. Build your own story and your own experiences to be who you are." 

 On friends:

"This situation made me realize that I really need to value my friends. I didn't realize it until I went through this whole thing." 

I suppose she was talking about the controversial split-up with her ex-boyfriend. It really seemed to have changed her. I've always liked KC Concepcion. I think I like her even better now. I haven't met her in person yet, but I would definitely love to!

As a parting note, Cosmo asked KC as to what qualities in a guy are now non-negotiable post-breakup, KC says the most essential one is honesty. "He has to be honest with himself first, " she says firmly, "It's the only way he can be honest with you consistently!"

Prom Night Accessories

Well, it's been a month and a half since my daughter's Junior-Senior Prom Night. I know this blog post is super delayed. At times, life does get in the way! LOL! No, I'm not going to make excuses. I didn't quite know how to share this so I procrastinated. Then, lo and behold, I remembered I put it on my "to do list" and hasn't managed to cross it out. Now, I'm taking action and doing something about it. There is indeed something to be learned from every situation. ^_^

So going back to Prom Night preparations, a few months before the event, my daughter decided she would wear a red gown. And that her chosen motif would be red and gold. When I asked her why she chose red, she simply said that it stands out in the photo. Indeed! Once the photos have been posted, she did stand out in a red gown! ^_^

If you're planning for a specific motif, it would be good to do your shopping in advance. You may not want to purchase stuff yet but you would definitely want to plan your budget way in advance. I personally believe this is a good idea, as planning ahead helps you organize and manage your time and resources. 

Red and gold. I would say it's a pretty good combination. Plus, it shouldn't be too difficult to find accessories as this combination is pretty much a classic favorite. We found this set of accessories that includes a necklace, bracelet, ring, and a pair of earrings. It's not too cheap but not too heavy on the budget either. I would estimate the cost to be below $15.

My daughter wore these with her long gown.






And since she had a cocktail gown to change into, she needed another pair of earrings to match the set. It's a good thing that we found one she liked.






And lastly, we had to find tote bag and shoes to match her other accessories. We found both in gold. I guess planning ahead is indeed advantageous. Both items were purchased in a sale! Good quality at a cheaper price -- now who wouldn't like that right? ^_^

I will share about her gowns in another post. We were quite happy how they turned out that I feel it would be great to share information about the boutique that made them. Till then.. ta-tah! ^_^

Hot Sea Water in a Coastal Barangay in Dumanjug

It has been some time since my last post here. No, I'm not going to make excuses but life sometimes has a way of getting in the way. ^_^

Too many happenings in the past weeks. First, my favorite female singer, Whitney Houston, passed away. She hasn't been that visible in the last few years of her career, but I must say she was one of the very best female vocal artists. I don't recall liking any other female singers as much as I liked Whitney Houston and her songs.

Then there was Valentine's Day, that I spent quietly with family. Mom even recalled having take-out pizza delivered last year 'coz she didn't want to miss the premier of a local soap opera. LOL! I think Mom's a TV addict. Well, this year she did bring home take-out snacks in the form of Chinese dimsums. Mmmm yummy! Did I mention I love Chinese food? ^_^ To me, that's V-Day well spent.

So what made me come out of hiding? Well there's this local news that I found interesting. I suppose anything that is related to thoughts of doomsday is interesting.. esp. since it's the year 2012. Well several weeks prior to this news, there was a devastating earthquake in Negros Oriental.

The news articles below talk about a sink hole that was formed in a town in Cebu. Aside from that, there's a video report on "boiling sea water" in a coastal village. I just thought I'd share about these newsworthy events. I'd probably be watching  for more news about this. Compared to the news of sink holes found  in other parts of the world, this one hits closer to home. Although I'm in the capital city, Cebu isn't that far.

Hot sea water, sink hole worry Cebu town residents

The video is in the local Filipino language. It mainly talks about the supposed "boiling water" in a portion of the ocean in the town of Dumanjug. Said incident started since the earthquake last Feb. 6th, 2012. Residents are mainly alarmed and some worry that marine life in the area might be affected. Geologists say, however, that there's no cause for alarm.

In another part of town, a sinkhole was formed. Reports say that the hole continues to widen and it's now 10 m wide and 4 m deep. Water can be seen flowing from it too.

KC Concepcion on Rogue Magazine -- I Finally Have My Copy!!!

This post is a bit overdue. I'm trying to post in bits and pieces as I try to get back to normalcy after quite a stressful weekend. Well, for one, there was the nail salon bonding with daughter. I actually bought the Rogue Magazine with sexy, daring KC Concepcion on the cover on the same day.

First stop was at a popular bookstore which unfortunately didn't have the issue yet. It's a good thing that the Booksale outlet in the same mall already has the copy!!! That saved me another trip! ^_^

And for the record... I liked the article esp. when I saw that the interview was done by renowned filmmaker Jose Javier Reyes.

I'm pretty sure that most of the much-talked about pictures can be found all over the Internet, but I took some amateur shots of my three most fave KC pictures from the magazine. I will share them here together with tidbits from the interview that I really liked! ^_^

JJR: You know, I've seen you grow up, and when I saw that interview... I understood that you did the best decision for you. Sometimes these things are so necessary. They make us stronger because -- in this business -- you need to be tough.

KC:  It's simple. No one was making it known that the relationship was over. So I stepped up to let people know the truth.

Well, that's just about it for today's post. I'm definitely a KC Concepcion fan. Atta girl! I like the fighting spirit! ^_^ Then again, I've always admired fun and fearless females. Well when the right time comes, I'm sure KC will find the right man for her. ^_^

Of Purple Toes and French Tip Nails

There's no doubt that the weekend that just passed was a highly stressful one for me and my daughter! Yup! We were rushing some last minute preparations for her Junior-Senior Promenade Night. So the night before her big day, we rushed to the local mall for some nail salon bonding. I'm personally not too fond of such stuff. However, I decided to go along and treat myself to a "Milk and Almond Foot Spa with Pedicure." I just felt like my feet so deserved to be pampered once in a while. LOL! ^_^

Preparation for my daughter's J-S Prom actually took more than a month. You see, it seems my daughter is a bit of an OC like me.. she wanted everything well planned to avoid last minute mishaps. We actually had her gowns made at least two months before. But I will reserve that for future postings. Otherwise, this might turn out to be a novel. 

Yup you guessed it right.. her gowns are red :D She wanted a red and gold motif so above pictures show her hands and toes with red nail polish with gold French tip. Amazing how teens these days can be so posh! LOL...

As for me, I settled for purple toes.. don't ask me why.. I just wanted something different. It's not something I would normally do or go for. Hey, it's another year so why not be different right?

Not too posh... but I know my feet and toes are happy to be pampered! After all, it doesn't happen every day! ^_^ More adventure posts next time! Ta-tah!
